During the pandemic, we have seen some of our favorite chains close and been left without with luxuries such as coffee and take aways, in addition to our favorite salons, shops and pubs closing!

Luckily, small businesses in Bridgend have done a fantastic job in delivering the best service possible. We want to celebrate the local businesses, and want to support them in keeping the new customers they have gained during the lockdown!

Navidi Hair Company – As panic set in for ladies and gentleman that people would soon see their natural hair colours, Navidi Hair Company came to the rescue and set up an online shop which enabled clients to purchase homecare kits to sort out roots, colour and kits to make you feel a bit brighter! To make it better, delivery was free and fast! The salons (Brackla and Broadlands) are due to open 13th July, existing clients are able to sign up to priority booking. If you head to their website and sign up for the newsletter you are able to claim 10% off your first order.

The Tasty Plaice – This takeaway has always been popular, especially with those working on the industrial estate. Also known as Phil’s – Phil was the first to offer delivery, but not just fish and chips, you could order anything that was usually stocked in the shop. Phil didn’t stop there, he supported another local small business and started stocking products from Cupcake Bouquets! The store is open with strict social distancing protocol in place, so you can safely visit or make an order for delivery at home!

KLD Sports Therapy & Personal Training – With gyms closing, many were left panic buying gym equipment, and paying over the odds! KLD offered home work out plans, working with what was available to you. Along with Zoom classes, Kierra was on hand to offer injury advice and exercises to help ease any injuries, in lieu of injury therapies usually on offer. The new lockdown guidance now means you can have outdoor training sessions with KLD who maintains high hygiene standards between each session and social distancing measures. The Haywain– If you have been to the Haywain in the past, especially on a Sunday, you will find it busy. When the pub had to close due to lockdown, I think most people were going to miss their Sunday Dinners. It wasn’t long before they set up a delivery service, offering Sunday Dinners, Afternoon Teas, and other meals off their menus! Not only offering dinners but in response to the panic buying and people unable to buy fruit and veg, they also offered Veg Boxes.

Florrie’s Craft Shop – Along with the dread homeschooling, some parents were left with finding ways to entertain children 24/7! The cutest craft shop made their products available to buy and delivered, providing children endless hours of fun! Their packs and products are a great way to spend quality time with your children. You can still order in products that you are looking for, the shop is now open so you can collect. They have a great set up in store now and close mid day for cleaning, ensuring the safety of customers.

Philz Barbers – This popular barbers had to shut their doors when lockdown came into play, but now lockdown is easing Philz will be opening their doors soon! The barbers have opened their appointment book and you can make an appointment now, you don’t have to be an existing client to book, head to philzbarbers.booksy.com to book your appointment. Philz are adhering to strict health and safety measures to ensure the safety of clients and staff.

The Station – Since opening January, the girls running The Station have provided local and amazing produce, including their very popular veg boxes. The Station have continued to stock local products and supported other local businesses. In addition to this, they have raised money for a school which has been making PPE for healthworkers! It’s definitely worth a visit when it’s back open but in the meantime you Click and Collect!

Bridgend Foodbank – The volunteers at Bridgend food bank have continued to do a fantastic job in helping families all across Bridgend. While the panic buying was going on, they were able to support families and provide much needed food packages to those in need. It’s important to remember that this is a charity and they need our help, you can drop tins and packs of food in the collection bins in local supermarkets or make a donation via their Just Giving page.
